What travel actually teaches you
It's not the landmarks. It's the thousand small recalibrations of what you assumed was normal.
Every country I've visited has quietly corrected an assumption I didn't know I was making. About time, about food, about how strangers treat each other, about what a city is for.
Travel is the fastest way I know to make the invisible visible. You don't notice your own culture until you're standing outside it, watching a different set of defaults run smoothly.
I keep a map of the countries I've been to, and people often ask which was my favorite. The honest answer: the one that surprised me most relative to my expectations. Surprise is the whole point.
There's so much more to see. That's not a complaint — it's the plan.
