Emerging tech worth watching in 2026
A short list of technologies I think are underhyped relative to their long-term impact.
Hype cycles make it hard to separate signal from noise. Here are a few areas where I think the noise is actually understating the signal.
First: the quiet infrastructure layer of AI — evaluation, orchestration, and provenance. The flashy demos get the attention, but the picks-and-shovels work is where durable companies are being built.
Second: computational biology. The cost curves here remind me of sequencing a decade ago, and the intersection with machine learning is exactly the kind of cross-domain space where breakthroughs compound.
Third: energy storage. Unglamorous, constraint-driven, and absolutely foundational to everything else on anyone's list.
None of these are predictions. They're the areas where I'm spending my reading time — which, for me, is the truest signal of what I actually believe.
